Nine out of ten Americans treat their pets like any other family member. Over 63 million dogs and 42 million cats are spoiled in our homes. But believe it or not, Scottsdale, Arizona has been designated the pets’ paradise by WalletHub, surpassing Orlando and Tampa in Florida. For real estate agents in Scottsdale, interacting with pet owners on a daily basis comes as second nature. According to the 2019-2020 APPA National Pet Owners Survey, there is at least one pet in 67% of households, most preferring dogs and cats. “But why is Scottsdale a pet-friendly city?” you may ask. Let’s find out.

  • Many seniors own four-footed friends

The city of Scottsdale is a top retirement destination which means that it has a good share of seniors. So, to keep loneliness at bay, they share their homes with a furry friend. The city adjusted and now ranks very high for outdoor pet-friendliness.

  • Pet-friendly shops and restaurants

Most shopping centers are welcoming pets and many restaurants don’t mind if people dine with their pets outdoors. Moreover, access with pets is not restricted at all in 20 bars around Scottsdale. So, don’t leave your pet alone when going to Kierland Commons or the Scottsdale Quarter. And while in the Old Town Scottsdale, go check the dog menu at Brat Haus. It seems that they even serve dog “beer”!

  • Three well-kept dog parks

Pet owners are encouraged to bring a chair and their pet’s favorite toy in the parks and socialize. Some of them close for maintenance during the morning, so it’s best to take your dog out there in the afternoon. The three parks are:

  • Chaparral dog park
  • Horizon dog park
  • Vista del Camino dog park

Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve is also a great place for a leisure walk with your animal friend, too. And let’s not forget about the Arizona Canal Path.

Obviously, the fact that Scottsdale is a pet-friendly city can be seen in the fact that most hotels and landlords allow pets. All pet-related businesses are thriving, as well, from canine barbershops to veterinary clinics.

In 2019, Americans are expected to spend a whopping $75.38 billion on their pets, most of the money going into food supplies and healthcare.
